Chris Noel is an artist and retired art teacher whose creative interests span a variety of disciplines. She first began as an oil painter interested in both figurative and landscape themes. More recently, she has been combining painting with collage, drawing, and monoprints creating mixed media works.
Although 2D media was her primary focus for several years, at one time Noel applied underglaze, sgraffitto designs, and paintings on Gary Stattler pottery. Now she makes and decorates her own ceramics. And being that she also taught jewelry and metalsmithing for many years, she produces some small jewelry pieces from time-to-time., which adds yet another aspect to her impressive creative repertoire.
An experienced educator, Noel is accustomed to providing instruction for nearly any age and skill level. She encourages her students to explore and appreciate art and finds that getting them excited about learning and making new connections is very rewarding. Though she officially retired from public school teaching a while back, she’s practically a fixture in the CAA clayroom, and she provides instruction for various art education groups as well.
Noel has had her work in Iowa exhibits and all over the Midwest. She has won several awards both for her teaching and for her artwork. She is available for commissioned work and occasionally teaches both studio and educational workshops.
