After retiring from her beloved classroom, Margaret Chancellor Caldwell, found that she had more free time and she began looking forward to focusing on some of her favorite creative pursuits..
During her more than two decades of teaching art, Caldwell discovered mosaics. She found this was not only an enjoyable creative outlet but could fit easily into her busy schedule. Today, she still enjoys the medium, reveling in its bright colors and combining disparate materials into harmonious arrangements. She sometimes even adds text as a surprising element to her one-of-a-kind creations.
Lately Caldwell has been seen working in the CAA clayroom making pots and sculpture. She is also drawing and painting more often now with the goal of creating woodcuts and lithographs which would get her back into printmaking.
As longtime art educator teaching students of all ages, the classroom is never far from her thoughts and in her time volunteering at CAA, she has especially enjoyed leading both slab and wheel throwing clay classes.
