Maurice H. Phillips
(1930 – 2016)
As a retired Army National Guard Brigadier General, Maury Phillips (NHS Class of 1949) was disciplined and well-trained in business and organizational structure. These qualifications were exactly what CAA required as contracts were drawn up and business advice was needed.
Phillips was enormously valuable and generous, donating his time and skills to this fledgling organization by folding his role as Treasurer for ISF into doing the same as CAA began to take shape.
From 2007 to 2013, he served as a founding board member focusing on everything from creating rental contracts to management of CAA’s monetary business.
Further, Phillips made himself indispensable for his depth of knowledge of Newton’s city codes. Having served at the Chamber of Commerce for many years, his expertise was essential to advising and negotiating building liabilities as well as providing an understanding of the property shared with DMACC.
We considered him to be a role model in his disciplined approach to work, his kindness and generosity of spirit, his ability to see the big picture, and his quiet, humorous observations.
