Carroll L. Bennett
(1936 – 2019)

We recall Carroll Bennett fondly as a connector. An individual intent on building relationships and friendships. He was attentive to keeping in touch, most often in person. In conversation, he was fully present and was an especially intuitive listener. When he settled in for a chat, the other person could release what was on their mind and heart
without reservation.

He was also a wonderful and cherished writer, whose musings are still appreciated to this day. Bennett’s entire career was devoted to education. He graduated from the University of Iowa with bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He began his career teaching in Iowa, first in Estherville, then later in Ames.

In 1967 Bennett joined the team who launched Des Moines Area
Community College (DMACC) in Ankeny. He spent the rest of his career there in various leadership positions — one special opportunity was helping to form and open the DMACC campus here in Newton.

To us, Bennett, a NHS Class of 1954 graduate, showed interest and caring, forming permanent connections and friendships we will not soon forget.
